visual direction — what the light reaches for. midjourney clusters and their outputs as they accumulate.

cluster 01 — breath made visible

ember-dominant atmospheric backgrounds. the brand's photographic mode explored as ambient fields — droplet light, dusk warmth, blurred motion. these are exploration; the actual brand palette runs cooler.

Cluster 01 — Breath Made Visible

The hardest invariant: making the unseen seen, without declaring it.

The brand's thesis is carrying stories in breath and bone, turning feelings into magic. Breath is the first material. This cluster tests whether Midjourney can render breath without falling into smoke / fantasy / sparkle clichés — and whether V7 vs V8.1 better serves Vyaso.

Calibration Pair — V7 and V8.1

Each prompt has two versions: V7 (default, full --no support) and V8.1 (HD by default, exclusions folded into prompt body). Generate both. Compare.

Prompt 1 — Exhalation in dusk air

V7

breath made visible in cold dusk air, exhalation curling through low golden light, close crop of a parted mouth and the warmth leaving it, soft grain, blurred motion, large format film photography, painterly contemplative stillness, muted palette of deep plum #5A3E6B, bone white #F9F6F2, soft charcoal #2C2C2C, muted clay #B47B5D, and soft gold #C2B280 --ar 3:4 --style raw --s 50 --chaos 10 --v 7 --no vibrant, drama, lens flare, ethereal woman cliche, sparkle, fantasy magic, hard contrast, hdr

V8.1

breath made visible in cold dusk air, a quiet exhalation curling through low golden light, close crop of a parted mouth and the warmth leaving it, soft grain, gentle motion blur, large format film photography, painterly contemplative stillness, natural unforced light, soft tonal range, grounded and real, muted desaturated palette of deep plum #5A3E6B, bone white #F9F6F2, soft charcoal #2C2C2C, muted clay #B47B5D, and soft gold #C2B280 --ar 3:4 --style raw --s 50 --chaos 10 --v 8.1

Prompt 2 — Single thread of vapor

V7

a single curling thread of vapor in a darkened room, half the frame in deep plum shadow, the vapor catching one stripe of dusk-gold light, fine grain, painterly, large format film, muted palette of deep plum #5A3E6B, bone white #F9F6F2, soft charcoal #2C2C2C, muted clay #B47B5D, and soft gold #C2B280 --ar 3:4 --style raw --s 50 --chaos 10 --v 7 --no vibrant, drama, lens flare, sparkle, fantasy magic, hard contrast, hdr

V8.1

a single curling thread of vapor in a darkened room, half the frame in deep plum shadow, the vapor catching one stripe of dusk-gold light, fine grain, painterly contemplative stillness, large format film, soft tonal range, natural unforced light, grounded and real, muted desaturated palette of deep plum #5A3E6B, bone white #F9F6F2, soft charcoal #2C2C2C, muted clay #B47B5D, and soft gold #C2B280 --ar 3:4 --style raw --s 50 --chaos 10 --v 8.1

How to Run

  1. Paste each prompt into Midjourney (Discord or the web app — both work).
  2. Each prompt produces a 4-image grid. With 2 prompts × 2 versions = 4 grids = 16 images for this cluster.
  3. Download outputs to:
    • ../scratch/outputs/cluster-01-breath/v7/
    • ../scratch/outputs/cluster-01-breath/v8-1/
  4. Fill in "Notes from the Run" below.

Calibration Criteria — V7 vs V8.1 for Vyaso

Beyond the visual register, this cluster calibrates V7 against V8.1 for this brand:

  • Does the brand register hold? Does either version drift toward drama, "ethereal woman" cliché, or shouty? V7 has tighter --no controls; V8.1 relies on positive framing.
  • Texture detail. V8.1's native HD should give visibly more grain in skin / vapor / fabric. Worth the trade for Vyaso?
  • Iteration speed. V8.1 is ~5x faster. How much does that change the working loop?
  • Aesthetic continuity. V8.1 release notes claim "matches V7's aesthetic." Verify on real output.
